Shamim Haider Tirmazi was born in a small town of India. His father, Syed Baqar Ali, a govt. Servant, transferred and shifted with his family to Sahiwal (Montgomery) in early 1940s. Shamim Haider spent his early days of life in a 7-member middle class family. He completed his education – primary to F. Sc. (1956) from the institutions of Sahiwal city. He passed B.A. examination (1958) as a private candidate. He got admission in B.Ed. class at Central Training College, Lahore and secured second position in Punjab (1959). Later, he joined Institute of Education and Research (Punjab University, Lahore) for M.Ed. (the very first class / batch in Pakistan) and got the degree in 1961. He was also offered UNESCO Fellowship in Australia, which was completed in 1984. He got his Ph.D. degree in Education from B.Z.University Multan, Pakistan in 1991
